About the Author

Ivan Nikolayevich Logachev holds a doctorate in engineering and is a professor and academician at the Russian Academy ofNatural Sciences, Moscow, Russia. He graduated from the Kharkiv Engineering-Building Institute in 1962, with a specialization in heat and ventilation. For more than 30 years he worked in the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Safety and Environment in the Mining and Metallurgical Industry (Krivoy Rog), where he was promoted from research assistant to the head of the laboratory of industrial ventilation. Dr. I. Logachev is the author of more than 300 scientific papers, more than 50 inventions, and several monographs.

Konstantin Ivanovich Logachev holds a doctorate in engineering and is a professor at Belgorod State Technological University, Belgorod, Russia, where he has been working since 1995. He graduated from the Dnepropetrovsk State University in 1992, with a specialization in "hydroaerodynamics." Dr. K. Logachev has authored more than 150 scientific publications.

Olga Aleksandrovna Averkova received a Candidate of Technical Sciences degree from the Belgorod State Technological University, Belgorod, Russia in 2004, and is currently an associate professor at the university. She has authored more than 100 scientific publications.

Information retrieval (IR) has changed considerably in recent years with the expansion of the World Wide Web and the advent of modern and inexpensive graphical user interfaces and mass storage devices. As a result., traditional IR textbooks have become quite out of date and this has led to the introduction of new IR books. Nevertheless, we believe that there is still great need for a book that approaches the field in a rigorous and complete way from a computer-science perspective (as opposed to a user-centered perspective). This book is an effort to partially fulfill this gap and should be useful for a first course on information retrieval as well as for a graduate course on the topic.

The book comprises two portions which complement and balance each other. The core portion includes nine chapters authored or co-authored by the designers of the book. The second portion, which is fully integrated with the first, is formed by six state-of-the-art chapters written by leading researchers in their fields. The same notation and glossary are used in all the chapters. Thus, despite the fact that several people have contributed to the text, this book is really much more a textbook than an edited collection of chapters written by separate authors. About the Author

Ricardo Baeza-Yates received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, Canada in 1989. In 1992 and 1996, he was elected president of the Chilean Computer Science Society. In 1993, he received the Organization of American States award for yound researcher in exact sciences. He has several papers in various journals and is a member of ACM, AMS, EATCS, IEEE, SCC and SIAM. He is currently a full professor at the Computer Science Department of the University of Chile, Santiago.

Berthier Ribeiro-Neto reveived his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1995. He is involved with various research projects financed by Braziliam agencies; the two main projects deal with wireless information systems and video on demand. He has chaired distinguished conferences in South America and is a member of ACM, IEEE and ASIS. He is currently an associate professor at the Computer Science Department of the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

About the Author
Maks A. Akivis is Professor of Mathematics at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva, Israel, and at the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys in Russia.
Vladislav V. Goldberg is Distinguished Professor of Mathematics at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.
Dr. Akivis and Dr. Goldberg are the authors of numerous papers, many of which they wrote jointly. They are the authors of the book Tensor Calculus and the monograph Projective Differential Geometry of Submanifolds. In addition, Dr. Akivis is a coauthor of the monograph Geometry and Algebra of Multidimensional Three-Webs and the book Elie Cartan (1869-1951), and Dr. Goldberg is the author of the monograph Theory of Multicodimensional (n+1)-Webs.

Rupert mouse has the brilliant idea of creating a wordless picture book which is ruined page after page by his fellow mice, Thistle and Nibbs. This is the hilarious account of how when you have friends who love to talk, there is no way silence will happen, ever! The conversations between the three mice, and their creative, and sometimes ridiculous ideas, will delight readers while they will probably empathize with Rupert, trying so hard to create his wordless book, trying so hard to control the frustration Thistle and Nibbs are creating, until... you'll have to read it to find out! Great conversations to be had about personal and creative space. The illustrations are beautiful and give the illusion of texture.

I just discovered that this book is a part of the Mother Bruce Series. What delightful stories. I've purchased them all and look forward to the next book in the saga of Mother Bruce ( a bear who is a reluctant, yet loving, mother to his little goslings - and, evidently, several mice who invited themselves into the family). So cleaver and creative. The illustrations alone tell the story, but the words speak for themselves.This is a stand-alone book, totally awesome in itself; but, read the entire series - your sides will ache and your heart will go pitter pat.....

All of the "Bruce" books are excellent, this one is a bit different, less of a story, more of a comedic meta-story. It's all about the mice from the second book, and their desire to make their own book, and how two of them mess it up. The only book my kid laughed at more was "The Book with No Pictures". The humor is a little "older" though. For example, at almost exactly 4yro, my child thought it was funny. At 4 1/2, it was hysterical. Lovely pictures, interesting "plot", and all around enjoyable and laughing read. One I avoid at bedtime, don't need to get them that worked up with laughing.

This book is so funny! My six-year-old laughs at it and wants to hear it over and over. The author uses humor to teach about elements of literature- illustration, onomatopoeia, and likable characters. It also presents the idea of three friends collaborating (or not) on writing a book together as a fun activity.

Hilarious! My 2nd graders loved it and read it over and over!

loved this book! Friends started reading this book at karate, a dance, it became a favorite everywhere we went. children so excited to read and to hear other children reading!

We chose this book based on reviews to read and donate to my daughterâ€™s 1st grade class, and we werenâ€™t disappointed. It was fun to read and the kids all laughed out loud throughout. 26 firsties canâ€™t be wrong. A+ book!
